Summer dance classes are a great way to keep up your dancer’s technique, spend time with new (and old!) friends, and beat the Summer heat!

Summer classes run in 8-week sessions from June 17 - August 10.*

*No classes Thursday, July 4; Thursday classes extended through August 15.

  • Ages 3-5: An energetic Ballet-based dance class focusing on gross motor skills such as marching, kicking, turning and leaping. Your child will learn introductory Ballet terminology and positions, and practice patience while taking turns doing exercises across the floor.   • Ages 3-5: This class incorporates our Preschool Dance curriculum with beginner tumbling skills. Children will learn forward rolls, log rolls, levers, donkey kicks and more on our safety mats with hands-on assistance from our instructors. 8-week Summer sessions:

  • Ages 3-5: A combo class that explores both beginner Hip Hop dance and beginner tumbling skills every week. This lively class incorporates rhythm and coordination while also developing muscle & cardio strength. 8-week Summer session:

  • Ages 3-5: An energetic Hip Hop-based dance class focusing on gross motor skills such as jumping, kicking, turning, and leaping. Your child will learn introductory Hip Hop moves to kid-friendly beats, and practice patience while taking turns in the classroom.

  • Ages 3-5: A combo class that explores both beginner Ballet and Tap dance each week. Students will refine motor skills such as skipping, kicking, turning, and leaping. Half of class time will focus on Ballet positions, terminology and exercises across the floor, while the other half is devoted to basic Tap steps and terminology. 8-week Summer sessions:

  • Ages 4-8

    This 45 min yoga class focuses on learning yoga poses, breathing techniques, and relaxation exercises to help cultivate a calm mind, strengthen gross/fine motor skills, improve attention/concentration, and provide children with tools to manage social-emotional challenges they may face in their daily lives. Each class centers around self-love & the importance of showing compassion to others. Music & games will be incorporated into these fun, non-competitive classes with a short period of relaxation and child-safe aromatherapy.

  • Ages 5-7 / rising K - rising 2nd

    This technique class focuses on the primary elements of classical Ballet and is a great fit for both first and second year Level I dancers. Class includes barre and center exercises concentrating on proper positions of feet and arms, stance, and alignment. Emphasis is on developing strength, flexibility, and retaining familiar steps with teacher demonstration. Ballet terminology and classroom etiquette are introduced and reinforced.

  • Ags 6-8 / Rising 1st - Rising 3rd

    Dancers will learn Ballet I technique as well as foundational skills and progressions for our Lyrical program in this fun and energetic class. This class is great for dancers new to Ballet & Lyrical and dancers that want to prepare themselves to take a Level II class during the upcoming school-year season.

  • Ages 5.5-8 / Rising K - Rising 3rd

    This lively class incorporates rhythm and coordination while also developing muscle & cardio strength. Dancers will do both Tap & Hip Hop genres in each every week and will need both black tap shoes and black sneakers. 8-week Summer sessions:

  • Ages 5.5-8 / Rising K - Rising 3rd

    Dancers will learn musical theatre and jazz-based vocabulary as they dive into high-energy Musical Theatre choreography, inspired by some of Broadway's greatest hits! Each week dancers will hit the ground running with jumps, turns, kicks, and formations to songs from blockbuster shows such as The Lion King, Mary Poppins, The Newsies and more!

  • Ages 5.5-8 / Rising K - Rising 3rd

    A high-energy class focusing on the latest Hip Hop moves including freezes and isolations. Class includes a funky warm up, stretches, moves across the floor and combinations with emphasis on developing muscle and cardio strength. Students are encouraged to freestyle and add their own personality/style to dance moves.

  • Ages 8-12 / Rising 3rd-6th

    Dancers will learn a modern dance piece with Dance Moves Youth Company choreographer Brice Flowers and give parents an informal performance on Friday. This is a great opportunity for dancers that are interested in the DMYC to experience the rehearsal and performance process in a condensed amount of time with a limited level of commitment. Drop-off begins at 12:50pm, pick up by 4pm. Pack a snack and water bottle each day.

  • Ages 9-12 / Rising 5th - Rising 8th

    This class is great for an older beginner-level dancer or a dancer who hasn't taken class in a while! Dancers will build the foundation needed to join a level II or level III class in our upcoming 2024-25 season by focusing on the techniques/genres of Ballet, Modern, Jazz, and Lyrical as well as general strength and conditioning for dance. Dancers will need either ballet or jazz shoes for this class.

  • Ages 9-12 / Rising 5th - Rising 8th

    This class will include both Lyrical and Modern technique and choreography. A great class for a Level II or III dancer wanting to work on their technique, try new dance styles, or build skills necessary for the next level!

  • Ages 9-12 / Rising 5th - Rising 8th

    Dancers will learn musical theatre, jazz, and tap dance vocabulary as they dive into high-energy Musical Theatre choreography, inspired by some of Broadway's greatest hits! Each week dancers will hit the ground running with leaps, turns, shuffles, and time steps to songs from blockbuster shows such as Shrek, Singing in the Rain, The Newsies and more!

  • Ages 9-12 / Rising 5th - Rising 8th

Emphasis is on developing strength, flexibility, and retaining combinations of familiar steps with and without teacher demonstration. Ballet terminology and classroom etiquette are reinforced. Must have completed the Ballet the II curriculum or be teacher approved.

  • Ages 10-18, Level III-VI Dancers

    Our 4-day Summer Intensive is back by popular demand! Dancers will take one class each day, Monday, June 24 through Thursday, June 27 from 1:00 - 2:30 PM. Classes include Ballet, Hip Hop, Contemporary, and Jazz from Charleston-area guest teachers. Stay tuned, instructors will be announced soon!

  • Ages 13-18 / Rising 7th - Rising 12th

    This class will include Lyrical and Modern technique. A great class for a Level III+ dancer wanting to work on their technique while trying new dance styles.

  • Ages 13-18 / Rising 7th - Rising 12th

    Must complete at least one year of the Ballet III curriculum. Dancers will strengthen classical ballet technique and further explore the application of artistry to ballet movement vocabulary in this advanced class. Eligible dancers are encouraged to take all or part of class en pointe.
